Masking With The Select Objects Tool In Lightroom Classic

Divider LineThe Select Objects Tool is a new AI-powered masking tool in Lightroom Classic that allows you to select objects quickly and easily. Select Objects perfect for situations where the other AI masking tools fail, such as when you’re trying to change one specific item within a cluttered scene.

If you already understand how Masks work inside of Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Classic then you should find the new Select Objects Masking Tool easy to use.

Unlike the other AI masking tools, which attempt to automatically select the sky or the background in your image, the Select Objects Tool allows you to define the rough area that you want it to isolate. To use the Select Objects Tool, simply select it from the masking options menu and then drag out a rectangular selection or use a brush to paint over the object you want to select. Once you have defined the area you’re interested in, Lightroom Classic’s AI algorithms will study this area and then it will use its incredible masking power to dramatically improve the quality of your initial selection.

This tool really shines in situations where the other instant AI masking methods like the Select Subject, or the Select Sky, commands do not produce accurate results. Even if you’re new to masking, the Select Objects Tool’s intuitive interface makes it easy to get started.

I rarely start with the Select Objects Tool but it is always my second choice when one of the simpler methods fails. When it comes to masking, it pays to have a plan a, b, and c!
