The Content Aware Remove Tool inside of Lightroom Classic uses a form of Adobe Photoshop’s Patch Match technology. The Patch Match algorithm automatically looks for another portion of your image that it can copy and move to cover over your unwanted pixels. When the pixels that this tool creates for you are an accurate replacement then the flaws that you want to remove from your image instantly vanish!
When it works well, the Content Aware Remove Tool’s results are fantastic. With more complex flaws, the Content Aware Remove Tool sometimes creates patches of pixels that do not blend in well with the rest of your image.
Fortunately the brilliant minds at Adobe have given us a number of ways to deal with these initial failures. If needed, you can tell the Content Aware Remove Tool to generate other patches or you can define your own region for even more accurate results. You can also use this tool in conjunction with Classic’s other image cleanup options to create even more precise repairs.
