Are you frustrated that the powerful AI-driven People and Landscape Mask buttons are missing in the Adobe Lightroom Mobile App ? These automatic selection tools are crucial for precise portrait and landscape adjustments, yet they are completely hidden away in the iOS and Android mobile editing interface. The good news? The functionality is there and there is a simple fix!

There are two ways to unlock these tremendously helpful AI masking tools on your iOS or Android device.
Method 1: Using Adobe’s Adaptive Presets
This method lets you trigger the AI mask algorithms directly on your phone or tablet by using one of Adobe’s Adaptive Presets.
- Go to Presets: In the Edit panel, tap the Presets icon.
- Navigate to Premium: Switch to the Premium tab.
- Choose an Adaptive Preset Group:
- For People Masks: Open the Adaptive Portrait group.
- For Landscape Masks: Open the Adaptive Landscape group.
- Apply a Preset: Tap any preset within the group (e.g., “Smooth Facial Skin” for portraits or a seasonal preset for landscapes).
- Check the Masking Panel: Once the preset is applied, tap the Masking icon. The AI-generated mask (e.g., Facial Skin, Sky, Mountains) will now appear!
The Catch: All of Adobe’s Premium Presets apply predefined adjustments (like lowered texture or increased clarity) onto your image. To use these masks for your own custom edits, you must track down all of the changes that Adobe applied in the Light, Color, Effects, etc. panels and manually reset all the affected sliders back to zero.
Method 2 (Recommended): Create Zero-Change Presets on Desktop
The most efficient and cleanest way to consistently access these missing masks is to create custom zero-change presets on your computer using Adobe Lightroom Desktop (the cloud-based version.) Creating your own presets that activate the missing AI Mask commands is easy and these presets will automatically sync with the Mobile App on all of your devices.
Since these custom presets contain only the command to create the AI mask and no editing adjustments, they offer a clean slate every time you use them.
To save you time, I have created two collections of these pre-made, zero-change AI masking presets for you. You can find the download links below the tutorial video above. Once downloaded, follow these simple steps to install them:
- Download these Zip Files to your computer. (Do not unzip the files before Import.)
- Import in Desktop Lightroom: In Lightroom Desktop, use the File > Import Profiles & Presets command and select the downloaded .zip file.
- Manage Visibility: If these Preset groups do not appear in the “Yours” tab on your mobile device, look for the three-dot menu next to the Presets title, select Manage Presets, and ensure the new group is toggled on.
With these methods, you can fully harness the power of AI masking for your portrait and landscape photos right on your phone or tablet!
