Recently one of our wonderful subscribers asked me for some advice on how to add a watermark using Adobe Photoshop Lightroom. It turns out that there is a lot more to this question then you might think. So in this tutorial I am going to dig deep into Adobe Photoshop Lightroom’s elegant Watermark Editor feature and show you how you can add all sorts of visible branding elements to the images that you print or post online.
I need to make it clear that adding a watermark in Lightroom will not affect your original image. Enabling the Watermarking option in Lightroom’s Export Dialog only affects your output files so have no fear here. Nothing that we are going to do in this tutorial will harm your original image.
Most Lightroom users don’t realize that Adobe Photoshop Lightroom has three types of watermarks. The first option that I cover in this tutorial, the Simple Copyright Watermark feature, relies on the words that you have added to the Copyright field inside of your file’s Metadata. The other two types of watermarks, which allow for multiple lines of text or a graphical watermark, can be precisely controlled using the Watermark Editor feature.
If you are interested in using a logo, or graphic, for use as a watermark then please stick around to the end of this tutorial. Creating a graphical watermark is not hard but it takes a little bit of work in Adobe Photoshop to ensure that you have the right type of file for this purpose.
