Learning to harness the full potential of the Export Dialog is an important skill for Adobe Photoshop Lightroom users. Getting the full potential out of this feature means learning to build and use your own Export Presets. Using an Export Preset is the most efficient way to prepare an email-ready version of a photo when I need to send a copy of my image to a client, to a friend, or to Mom.
In the first part of this video tutorial, I demonstrate how to use the factory-default For E-Mail Export Preset. The factory-default email settings are adequate but we can do much better. Once you understand how Export Presets work, we can configure the Export Dialog’s settings for much higher-quality results and then save these settings so that you can use these settings again and again.
Best of all, I can connect Adobe Photoshop Lightroom and my email software (Apple Mail) together. By linking these two programs together, I can literally press a single button and Photoshop Lightroom will prepare my email ready file for me. Once the email size copy is ready, Lightroom will automatically launch my email program, create a blank letter, and attach the properly sized image. All that I need to do is to fill in the recipient’s email address and away it goes. Linking Photoshop Lightroom with Apple Mail, or Microsoft Outlook, takes a little setup but the payoff is an amazing boost in productivity.
