Snapseed Tune Image Tools Lesson II

Divider LineNo two images are exactly the same but improving your mobile photo gets easier once you develop a reliable pattern of steps that you can follow for each type of image. In the video below, I explain a bit more each of the controls in Snapseed’s Tune Image Tools Menu. While most of Snapseed’s Tune Image options are intuitive and easy to understand the Ambiance control, which is one of my favorites, deserves a more robust explanation.

As you increase the Ambiance setting in Snapseed you are adding Saturation, which is why the colors in your image will growing richer and richer, and you are also going to add light into the darker areas of your image while simultaneously reducing the brightness of the lighter parts of your photo. If you decrease the Ambiance value then the opposite effect happens.

As the Ambiance value goes down the brightest areas in your image get brighter and simultaneously the darkest part of the images get darker. In addition, the level of Saturation in your image goes down as you decrease the Ambiance setting.

In essence, a negative Ambiance value is like adding Contrast and decreasing the level of Saturation at the same time. A positive Ambiance setting adds brightness into your shadows, darkens down the image’s highlights, and adds some punch to all of your colors.
